Our Chief Executive takes it up a gear on cycling adventure
Trinity Hospice & Brian House Children’s Hospice Chief Executive, David Houston, has successfully completed this year’s ‘Deloitte Ride Across Britain’, raising thousands of pounds for life-limited children on the Fylde coast.
The gruelling nine-day bike ride, covering 980 miles, began at Land’s End and finished at John O’Groats.
After being unable to take part in Brian House’s London to Paris bike ride last year, due to the death of his mum, David was eager to ensure he completed a challenge of magnitude.
Following the journey, David said:
“Every part of me is sore, I look exhausted (which I most definitely am), but I’m immensely proud to have gone from a total couch potato last June, to a ‘Ride Across Britain’ successful participant.
“As well as this massive personal achievement for myself, and riding in memory of my mum, I’ve also raised an incredible amount for Brian House – and I’m still seeing the donations roll in now.
“I’m always in awe of the hard work all the staff and volunteers put into the fundraising events for the hospice, as well as the amazing achievements of our supporters, which is why I wanted to give something back and not just be ‘Chief Executive’.
“Brian House receives extremely limited government funding, but it takes around £1.2 million to run each year, which is why we rely heavily of donations from the local community – and by people pushing themselves to the extreme.”
With over £4,000 raised, David is hoping to increase this even further after now completing the ride.
