Trustee Opportunity – Medical Trustee (Doctor)
Trinity Hospice & Brian House Children’s Hospice
Voluntary | Approx. 10–15 days per year | Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre
Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice are among the most respected palliative and end‑of‑life care providers in the Northwest. Our Board currently benefits from the expertise of medical trustees; as one reaches the end of their term, we are seeking to appoint a doctor who is currently or has been recently on the GMC register, including those who have retired and allowed their registration to lapse.
Why We Need a Medical Trustee
We want to continue strengthening the Board’s ability to scrutinise clinical quality, patient experience and safety, and to guide strategic discussions on service development. This is a non‑executive governance role, not a clinical or operational position.
You may be a GP, hospital doctor, consultant, SAS doctor or other suitably experienced medical practitioner, in work or recently retired. What matters most is your commitment to improving care for people with life‑limiting illness.
The Role
As a Trustee you will:
• Oversee strategy, governance and financial stewardship
• Support robust oversight of clinical quality and safety
• Bring medical insight to Board discussions
• Act as an ambassador for Trinity Hospice within the health and care system
• Work collaboratively with fellow Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team
What We’re Looking For
- A GMC‑registered or recently GMC‑registered doctor
• Experience in UK primary, secondary or specialist care
• Ability to bring clinical expertise to strategic, non‑operational decision‑making
• Compassion, integrity and a collaborative approach
• Commitment to active involvement and preparation for meetings
Advisory Option
If your time is limited, we also welcome expressions of interest from suitably experienced clinicians who could act in an advisory capacity without full trustee responsibilities and who may consider trusteeship in future.
Our Commitment
We want our Board to reflect our diverse community and we encourage applications from doctors of all backgrounds. We provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment and induction process.
How to Apply
Please send your CV and a covering letter outlining:
• Why you would like to be a Trinity Trustee
• How your medical experience is relevant
• What you hope to contribute and gain
Please send these via email to julie.crooks@nhs.net
For an informal discussion, please contact Julie Crooks via the email above or call on 07368 383443 / 01253 952573, who can arrange a conversation with David Houston, Chief Executive, or a current Trustee.
