IPU Staff Pay Survey
"
*
" indicates required fields
We are considering changes to our pay structure, specifically around unsociable hours.
Unsociable hours refers to shifts that fall outside the conventional workday, namely night and twilight shifts, weekend working and/or public holidays. For current clinical staff, unsociable hours payments are included in your base rate salary.
We have received feedback to suggest staff would like this reviewed. Any changes will need to be affordable and fit roughly within our expected wage bill.
You can help us by answering the following questions, which will help us design a fair and effective policy.
This short survey should take no longer than five minutes to complete.

Pay structure for Unsociable Hours
To what extent do you agree that there should be a difference in pay between shifts that include unsociable hours (e.g., weekends, nights) and those that do not?

If we introduced a new pay scale where staff working unsociable hours receive a shift premium (extra pay) for each shift (e.g., weekends, nights), would you support this change?
*
Yes
No
Not Sure
Currently, unsociable hours pay is included in the base rate salary for many staff. If unsociable hours pay is separated out and paid only for actual unsociable shifts worked, this will result in a reduction in the base rate salary. Do you support this approach?
*
Yes, I agree with this approach
No, I believe base salary should not change
I'm not sure
Specific pay for holidays
Do you believe there should be an enhanced payment for working on a bank holiday (in addition to regular unsociable hours pay)?
*
Yes
No
I'm not sure
Should there be an additional enhancement in pay for working major holidays like Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day?
*

No
I'm not sure
Minimum requirement for unsociable hours
If unsociable hours pay remains rolled up in annual pay (i.e., part of the base salary), should staff be required to work a minimum number of unsociable hours (e.g., weekends, nights) to qualify for that pay?
*
Yes
No
I'm not sure
Would you support a policy requiring all staff to be contracted for a minimum number of unsociable hours each month if the pay remains part of the base salary?
*
Yes
No
I'm not sure
If the organisation requires a minimum number of unsociable hours to be shared fairly among staff, should this be incentivised through additional payments for each unsociable shift worked or maintaining unsociable hours pay being rolled into the base pay?
*
Yes, I'd prefer additional payments per shift
No, I'd prefer rolled-up base pay with a minimum unsociable hours requirement
I'm not sure
