This year Blackpool, next year New York
Hurricane Sandy spoiled Laura Wilsdon’s dreams of running in the New York marathon – but instead she ran the 26.2 miles distance from St Catherine’s Hospice in Preston to Trinity Hospice here in Bispham.
Laura’s mum was cared for at the hospice and Laura, who lives in Kirkham, wanted to ‘give back a little something’. Her amazing run through some appalling weather means she has raised a substantial sum.
A member of Wesham Road Runners, Laura was supported along the route by a group of her running colleagues, and there was a welcoming party of friends at Trinity waiting to greet her at the end.
Fundraising manager Linzi Young – said: “The weather was pretty awful, which makes Laura’s run even more remarkable. She had been training for a year and was disappointed to miss out on New York, though she hopes to make the trip next year instead.
“We are incredibly grateful to Laura and really appreciate her support. The idea of running from one hospice to another was really inspiring too.”
