Hospice volunteers make £1.8m of difference
Trinity Hospice is marking Volunteers’ Week by paying heartfelt tribute to the hundreds of volunteers who give their time to support patients and families across Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.
From welcoming visitors and supporting patients on the In-patient Unit, to driving, gardening, fundraising and helping in charity shops, volunteers play an essential role in every part of hospice life.
Collectively, their contribution equates to around £1.8 million of support every year, helping to ensure the hospice can continue to provide compassionate care to local families when they need it most.
But for the hospice, the value of volunteering goes far beyond numbers.

Paul Guest, Head of Retail & Volunteering at Trinity Hospice, which includes Brian House Children’s Hospice, said: “Volunteers are at the very heart of everything we do. They give their time, energy and compassion so generously, often supporting people during some of life’s most difficult moments.
“While we know their contribution equates to around £1.8 million each year, what they give goes far beyond that. They offer comfort, kindness and connection – creating moments that stay with families forever.
“Whether they are greeting someone at reception, sitting alongside a patient, helping in our shops or supporting in the community, every single minute they give makes an incredible difference.
“Quite simply, we could not do what we do without them.”
Volunteers are part of the hospice’s wider team, helping to create a warm, welcoming and supportive environment for everyone who walks through its doors or receives care at home.
Families consistently highlight the role volunteers play in helping them feel at ease during an emotional and challenging time, through small acts of kindness that make a lasting impact.

As part of Volunteers’ Week, which runs from June 1st-7th, the hospice is encouraging people across the local community to consider giving their time, whether regularly or on an occasional basis.
Paul added: “It is a privilege to work alongside such dedicated and compassionate people. Volunteers truly are part of our hospice family, and this week is an opportunity to say a huge thank you for everything they do.
“If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, we would love to hear from you. There are so many different ways to get involved, and every role helps us be there for the people who need us most.”
