Hospice team are Born Survivors!

A team of hospice fundraisers have proved they are Born Survivors after taking on a military-grade 12km assault course.

The group which works in Trinity Hospice’s Fundraising Team formed part of a larger group of 30 participants who took on Born Survivor in Gisburn on Saturday. In total, the group has raised an impressive £12,715 with sponsorship still going in.

To boost their own fundraising, Head of Fundraising, Linzi Warburton, Events Fundraiser Danny Hickes, Individual Giving Fundraiser Esther Lowe and External Communications Manager Becky Ferguson held a cake sale, did a lottery scratch card prize draw and football cards to raise over £1,300 for Trinity.

Esther said: “This year is Trinity’s 40th anniversary, and with a couple of members of our group celebrating the same big birthday, we decided to truly test ourselves with this epic challenge.

“We called ourselves the Trinity Thundercats in homage to Trinity’s 80s origins, and the whole way round we were laughing and supporting each other though some incredibly tough obstacles.”

Danny, who organised the event for the hospice, said: “It was fantastic to see others there really pushing themselves to raise money for our charity, and to take part alongside them was something we don’t often get to do. We’re always behind the scenes, supporting our amazing fundraisers make the most out of their experiences for our charity, so to stand with them during our anniversary year was really special.”

Born Survivor is billed as the UK’s ultimate mud run, boasting 28 obstacles designed by marines set across a 12km course, including river crossings, rat holes, fire pits and the fastest obstacle slide in the world – a slide that sees participants zooming 35mph into muddy water!

Linzi added: “Born Survivor was really, really tough, but we’re so proud of what we achieved when we scaled the final wall and were handed our well-earned medals. We’ve always known the efforts our supporters go to in their quest to raise as much as they can for our charity, and joining them really did mean so much to us all.

“There are a few sore muscles and bruises, but knowing that our efforts have raised enough to fund our Hospice at Home service, supporting patients at home during the night, when other services are closed, is what kept us going through the toughest of obstacles along the course.”

Becky added: “A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored us, bought some of our cakes or took part in our fundraising activities. Not only did the money we raised and people’s words of encouragement keep us going along the way, but the difference we have made to local hospice care has given us all something to be incredibly proud of.”

Teams raising money for Trinity Hospice also included RNS Publications, Tandem Bank, HMP Legends from Kirkham Prison, the Gally Twins and the Seaside Sparklers.
