Living Well Reception Volunteer

Location: Trinity Hospice, Bispham

Objective:

To greet patients and relatives attending the Living well service and help them to feel at ease, to ensure they have a positive experience and the best welcome to the service.

 

Tasks:

  • Greet patients/ relatives as they enter the service.
  • Ensure they get to the right member of staff/ waiting area.
  • Offer attendees to service refreshments (tea/coffee) & clear away cups after use.
  • Picking up deliveries and supplies from other areas, such as milk.
  • Liaising with kitchen to restock refreshments.
  • Supporting patients/relatives (where required) and to put them at ease.
  • Take phone messages (where required) and pass on to the appropriate staff member.
  • Oversee a range of clinic lists and inform staff of any non-attenders.
  • Put together information packs in preparation for new patients.
  • Support the work undertaken by the support worker in decorating the reception area to celebrate special days in the year (Valentines, Easter, Halloween, etc).
  • Ensure reception area is kept tidy.
  • Direct training attendees (for the learning and research centre) to the correct area.

 

Skills:

  • Sensitivity and understanding
  • Good communication skills
  • Dependable and able to commit to cover allocated shifts.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of people.
  • Flexible according to the needs of patients/staff/relatives on the day and adaptable to change.
  • Someone who is happy to be busy but also understands there may be quitter times.
  • Good communicator.
  • Confident to support patients/relatives and be empathetic to their needs.
  • Experience in reception, customer service or a clinical environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Team player.

Commitment required:

To either commit to one of the following time slots on a weekly basis:

 

Monday – Friday: 9.30am-12.30pm or 12.30pm-3.30pm

 

  • Attendance at any specific training.
