When you take part in Blackpool Glow Walk, you’re walking for someone you love while helping to create moments that matter for others.
For Chris, that moment came when he married Ann.
They had been together for 35 years. “It was always one of those things… we’d say, ‘we’ll do it’ – but that day had never happened,” Chris says.
After Ann was diagnosed with aggressive cancer, she asked Chris to marry her.
“I couldn’t really refuse, could I?” he said.
With the help of our Hospital Palliative Care Team, that wish became a reality. In just days, our nurse Martha worked with staff at Blackpool Victoria Hospital to arrange a bedside wedding.
Chris says: “The wonderful Martha managed to arrange a wedding for us at very short notice, which I will be eternally grateful for.
“It was a beautiful ceremony. The smile on her face was just amazing. It was a perfect day for us.”
Soon after the wedding, Ann was admitted into the hospice where Chris says his family was looked after with compassion and dedication. Just ten days later, Ann died peacefully with her family by her side.
