We’re ready to run
The Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10K takes place on Sunday May 8th and the Trinity events team is ready to welcome upwards of 1,800 participants to the race.
This year we have a new Fun Run HQ at the Savoy Hotel, just off Gynn Square, but the event still takes its traditional route down the traffic-free Promenade to the Pleasure Beach and back.
Always seen as a fast course (as long as it isn’t too windy!) the Blackpool 10K has once again attracted club runners from across the region as well as fun and fancy dress participants aged from 11 to 80. Expect to see some weird and wonderful costumes – but also lots of bright purple as runners proudly wear their Trinity branded fun run t-shirts, which we have introduced this year.
Some really big teams have signed up, including groups from Fleetwood RUFC, Devonshire Rd Primary School and Ribby Hall Village. At least one Manchester running club is bringing a whole coachload of athletes to compete.
We also have senior pupils from Rossall School pushing a hospice bed the entire 10K route for us. It’s a revival of the hospice bed pushes which were part of Trinity’s early fundraising days, and we are very grateful to the youngsters for taking on the challenge. They aim to raise at least £500 for the hospice through their Just Giving page.
Many other people are being sponsored for us, and will help ensure that the Fun Run remains one of our biggest fundraising events of the year – last year it brought in £60,000.
The race starts at 11am but the fundraising team and event marshals will be there bright and early getting things ready for the road closure at 8.30am. Not signed up yet? Online entries close on Wednesday but you can join in on the day – get to the Fun Run HQ at the Savoy in plenty of time to register. Parking is limited but there’s a tram stop right outside!
If you are not competing please come along to cheer on the runners. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere at the start, with the Radio Wave truck providing the music and announcements as we count down to 11am.
