Upstairs at Brian House: a wonderful gift

Not many people know that upstairs at Brian House Children’s Hospice is a self-contained two bedroom apartment. It’s there for families who stay with us when their child first comes to sleep over at the hospice or, sadly, when their child is approaching the end life.

It means mums, dads, brothers and sisters (and even the pet dog!) can stay close by, so is a really valuable facility, providing families with privacy and comfort at what can be a most difficult time.

Our on-going refurbishment of the hospice over the past couple of years means we look pretty amazing downstairs, but the money available couldn’t extend to the apartment – so some of our very good friends stepped in.

They had already built us a brand new kitchen, and their latest gift to us is one completely refurbished bedroom and bathroom. Look at the pictures to see just how beautiful it is! There is new fitted furniture, new carpet and wall coverings, beautiful fabrics and light fittings and a modern bathroom.

SO A HUGE thank you to Room of Bispham, who co-ordinated the whole project, bringing together a big range of local trades people and suppliers to ensure that a top quality job was done at no expense to us.

The bedroom was completed shortly before Christmas and could not have been a better gift. It will be used by local families who stay with us, and is a stunning addition to our facilities.

Linzi Young, Head of Fundraising, commented: “We thought the kitchen was amazing, and the bedroom is absolutely beautiful too. The project was masterminded by Room, who made sure that everything ran smoothly and insisted on a top quality feel.

“What an amazing gift to us. Our appreciation extends to everyone involved – the local trades people and suppliers who got together to design, build and decorate to the highest standards. What talented and generous people you are.”
