Our cycling heroes!
Last Wednesday night was a truly special night in Brian House Children’s Hospice, when the staff and youngsters welcomed its Paris2Pisa ‘Tower to Tower’ cycle team for the final cheque presentation.
They have pedalled literally thousands of miles for us:
Four years ago the team set off from Brian House and cycled from Blackpool to the Eiffel Tower and raised £13,500.
The next year they cycled from Blackpool Tower to Munich Tower and raised a further £15,319.
Then came their final challenge…. summer 2015, Paris to Pisa, 800 miles on bikes over the Alps in seven days, with a target of raising £30,000 to support the work we do at Brian House.
The team raised a quite incredible £40,000.20!
Lisa Martin, Trinity and Brian House Community Fundraiser said: “Thank you so much to the team members and to their families, friends, colleagues and companies who all got behind these lads and helped them smash their original target of £30,000.
“In each of their adventures they have been completed self-funded, and have used their holidays from work to cycle for Brian House and help us care for our families.
“The Paris to Pisa route in particular took a lot of planning and many hours of training – they cycled 30,000km in training before even setting off! Once on their way, even a collapsed Alpine tunnel en-route didn’t stop them.
“The cheque handover was such a special occasion and their fundraising and friendship have made a big impression here over the years.”
In the autumn the team also won a well deserved ‘special recognition’ award for their amazing cycling adventures at the Radio Wave ‘Heroes in the Community’ presentation night.
Thank you from everyone at Brian House
