Fabulous Fun Run
It’s not often we can say that we had perfect weather on Blackpool Prom – but the sun was out, the sky was blue and the temperature climbing for the start of a fabulous Beaverbrooks 10K.
There were around 1,900 serious runners and fun runners registered for the event, many raising money for Trinity but others representing a wide range of local and national charities.
It’s always a fast course, but this year’s winning time of 33 minutes 20 seconds will take some beating in years to come! Well done to first man home, Wesham Road Runner Rob Danson and to first lady athlete Caroline Betmead of Lytham, who finished in 38 minutes 55.
A huge well done to the pupils of Rossall School who managed to push a hospice bed the entire distance in little over an hour. They have raised over £700 for Trinity as a result.
And the 10K would not be the same without the fantastic fancy dress competitors.
We had Fred Flintstone, Captain America, a giant hot dog, a fox and a bumble bee, to name but a few.
There were several runners competing in memory of a loved one – and even one gent from Switzerland who decided to give the 10K a go while he was in town!
There were big teams from Ribby Hall, Devonshire Road School, Fleetwood RUFC and Park School. Our friends at Lytham Festival organiser Cuffe and Taylor also fielded a team and of course there were runners and marshals from Beaverbrooks, whose support for the event is unswerving.
Our hospice staff and volunteers did us proud too, many running or helping behind the scenes, and our new Fun Run HQ at the Savoy Hotel proved to be a big hit with runners and spectators. Thank you to them for the help and hospitality. Radio Wave’s Hayley Kay, accompanied by Dan Whiston, led the cheering as the runners set off and we were thrilled to have Angel, one of our Brian House youngsters, on stage to do the countdown to the start.
