Bags are packed, we’re ready to run

The race packs for the Blackpool 10K are ready to go – thanks to some fantastic teamwork in the offices at race sponsor Beaverbrooks.

Two months before the race, the firm always holds what has affectionately become known as ‘stuffing day’, when a team of volunteers at the St Annes office gets to grips with packing the race numbers, timing chips and sponsor forms ready to be posted to runners across the region.

The event on May 8th is organised by Trinity and always attracts a big field of serious and fun runners – and the good news is that this year numbers are up on 2015, with 2,000 participants expected on race day.

Linzi Young, Trinity’s Head of Fundraising said: “Helping put together the race packs is always an enjoyable event. The team at Beaverbrooks are just fantastic and make sure everything is ready to be posted out as people sign up for the 10K.

“This year numbers are looking really good. We have a new Fun Run HQ at the Savoy Hotel, but the same fast course along the Promenade. We think it’s going to be a fantastic day.”

Many competitors in the 10K raise money for Trinity, but it’s their one event of the year where people can support any charity close to their heart.  The Trinity logo will be very much in evidence because this year, for the first time, every runner is being issued with a striking purple running top, to wear on the day or keep for later.

Many hospice supporters get involved to raise money in memory of a loved one, but we have teams and individuals running for other good causes.”

The 10K starts at 11am, with a race for wheelchair competitors getting underway 10 minutes before. To enter go to www.blackpoolfunrun.com. Entries will be accepted on the day at Fun Run HQ inside the Savoy Hotel. Radio Wave will be on hand to ensure there’s a great atmosphere  and the Gazette will publish all the results in a special supplement the day after the race.
