Teamwork transforms rooms at Brian House

A team of dedicated local craftsmen supported by a small army of suppliers have transformed an upstairs room at Brian House into a showpiece kitchen that will benefit families for years to come.

The formerly unused room has been fully fitted as a kitchen and dining area and will be used by families staying at Brian House with their child. Sometimes families stay with us when their child first comes to Brian House, sometimes when their youngster is very poorly and they want to be close by.

The kitchen means that for the first time Brian House has a truly self contained apartment with lounge, bedrooms and bathrooms for families to call home for a while.

It was the brainchild of a team from Room, who pulled together a band of tradespeople, suppliers and financial backers to make it all possible. And the kitchen was just the start – the team has also refurbished the Butterfly Suite, all at no cost to the Hospice.

A huge thank you goes to everyone involved. The kitchen will be a much appreciated resource and the improvements to the Butterfly Suite will make a very big difference to bereaved families who use it.

Sister Lorraine Cundy of Brian House said: “Fantastic, amazing, wonderful! We are overwhelmed with the results and really can’t thank the team enough. This work has been going on quietly while the rest of the Hospice has been refurbished, making the timing absolutely perfect. What a difference and what a generous thing to do for us.”

Room orchestrated the changes, bringing together a huge team of craftsmen and suppliers: here’s the list of everyone who helped make such a difference:

Room: Stephen Dunne, Gail Hunt, Ben Oldendorp, Keith Quinney, Sam Langwade

Trades: APB Plumbing, Bartons decorators, Simon Geraghty electrician, Neil Giles and Simon McMinnis flooring, Vicki Sharples Curtain Workroom, Simon Smith videographer.

Suppliers: Contract Floors, Edmundson Electrical, Franke, Hallis Hudson, Hunter Douglas, Johnson Paints, Kitchen Stori, Lawcris, LDL, Maurice Lay, Miele, Neff, Osborne and Little, Romo, Sargesons, Stoneworld, Wades Electrical, Waterline.

Donations: CME Medical, Melrose Investments, Suzanne and Adrian Baker, Ian and Anne Butcher, David Craven, Jenny Green, Jerry Smith, Mr and Mrs G Roberts, Tea Party.
