How your support helps

Kat's story

Hospice care is more than you think it is.

As Lewis (Kat's partner) describes, it’s the offer of a shower so you don’t have to leave your loved one for too long.

It’s making a patient’s favourite meal so even when they’re not feeling up to eating much, they can share a moment with their family over dinner, as they would at home.

It’s the little things that go unnoticed at any other time. But make the world of difference during the most difficult of times.

We had the privilege of caring for Kat, who was just 36 when she was admitted to our hospice. After two gruelling rounds of treatment, five years apart, it was our Trinity nurses based at Blackpool Victoria Hospital who told Lewis and Kat it was time to come to Trinity.

“It was scary at the time, the thought of going into the hospice,” Lewis says now.

“But as soon as we got there, Kat seemed to become more of herself.

“On the first day, the chef popped in and asked what Kat’s favourite meal was. She told him it was a Sunday dinner, so the next Sunday that’s what he made her!

“To start with, I was leaving Kat for half an hour or so to go home and have a shower. Then one of the nurses came up to me and said, ‘you know we have a shower here you could use’. It’s the little things you don’t even think about.

“Our children were visiting, but being at the bedside was a bit much for them. It was great though, because our son spent loads of time in the game area playing table tennis and pool, and our daughter loved running around in the massive gardens.

“And one night, the nurses put a big screen in the room and we had a family film night. Our son picked the film – Guardians of the Galaxy! It wasn’t Kat’s favourite!

“It’s hard to put into words just how amazing Trinity is. But they took care of everything; I didn’t need to do anything for Kat. I was simply there with her. That’s priceless.”

Ways you can fundraise and support the hospice

Raise sponsorship

There are lots of ways you can raise sponsorship for taking part in Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run, both online and off. We recommend using JustGiving as it's the easiest way to collect funds, but you can also use our paper sponsorship form.

Make a donation

We understand that not everyone wants to raise sponsorship; you may not feel comfortable asking for money or you may have fundraised for another cause. If you would still like to support Brian House, you can make a one-off donation for an amount of your choice.

Put the 'fun' in fundraising

Fundraising doesn’t have to be a direct ask for money; there are lots of creative ideas to rally supporters (and in a way where they benefit too)! Think raffles, collection buckets in your workplace, bake sales and sweepstakes.
