Brian House Children’s Hospice is a local – not regional – hospice, providing specialist care for children and young people from the Fylde Coast who are unlikely to reach adulthood.
Brian House gives wide-ranging support to their families and aims to ensure that they have the best quality care and support for as long as they need it, because when a child’s life is limited it affects every member of the family, putting them under immense pressure as they cope with the emotional, practical and financial implications.
We support children and young people by providing care in Brian House, either as admission to the unit for overnight care, or for day care. We are open day and night all year round.
In the past year:
- 25 new children were referred to Brian House
- Average bed occupancy was 91%
- We had 1,081 day care attendances
- The Butterfly Bereavement Suite was used for 45 days
We have a parent focus group, to encourage feedback about the service we provide, and we also ask our young users for their views on Brian House and its facilities.
Funding is a constant challenge. Brian House receives only a small grant from the Department of Health towards the £1.2 million annual running costs of the unit, but all our care is provided free of charge to children and their families.
